How often are these inspections required?
Fire and smoke dampers: Every 4-6 years (NFPA 80 and 105)
Alarm-activated fire dampers: tested annually (NFPA 80 and 105)
Swinging Fire Doors: Must be inspected at least annually (NFPA 80).
Firewall Penetrations and Firestops: Must be visually inspected at least annually to ensure the seal is intact and no new penetrations compromise the barrier (NFPA 101 & local code).
What codes do you follow?
Codes for inspections are governed by many different authorities. Each authority will have their own codes to follow, but all stick to the same basic guidelines outlined in International Building Code and NFPA 80, NFPA 105 and NFPA 101.
